THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city police on Saturday raided a house at Thrikkannapuram near Thirumala and arrested eight persons, including five women and three men, who were allegedly engaged in prostitution. They were charged with relevant sections of Immoral Traffic Prevention Act.
The police identified the male accused as Dileep Kumar, 32, of Vattappara, Ramakrishnan, 51, of Manacaud and Shibu, 41, of Vattiyoorkavu. The police, however, refrained from revealing the names of the women arrested.
Circle inspector B Anil Kumar, who led the raid, said the police raided the house based on a tip off. Immoral activities were being carried out under the aegis of a 33-year-old woman among the accused and her husband, who was an auto driver. She was arrested before by Sangumugham police in the city for the same offence.
“She is currently pregnant,” the CI said adding that she used to take a commission of Rs 500 each from the other women, who were caught from the house.
The house was taken on rent by the couple one and a half months ago. All the other women claimed that they arrived at the house only a day ago. All of them were into prostitution for the last couple of years.
They will be produced before the court on Sunday.
