KOCHI: Police busted a sex racket that was operating from a rented house at Thrikkakara on Wednesday evening. Six people, including two women, a facilitator, a driver and two customers were arrested. Police arrested the group after DCP Arul R B Krishna received credible information.
“The racket has been operating here for a few months and was under the observation of a special squad. The arrest was made by a combined team of special squad and Thrikkakara police,” said Thrikkakara circle inspector Jayachandran.
The facilitator, Asokan, used to approach customers and bring them to the rented house.Another accused Abdul Gafoor used to drive customers to the house.
The customers who were at the house during the raid, Anandan and Jafri, were also arrested.
An FIR under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act has been filed at Thrikkakara police station.
Man loses `1L in online fraud:
In yet another credit card fraud reported in the city, a Kakkanad resident lost Rs 1,66,614 in a transaction through net banking. The money was debited from his account through an online transaction against a purchase at an international fashion retail chain.
The incident happened on Tuesday morning when Anil Nair received an SMS alert in his phone notifying him about the money being debited through his HDFC Bank credit card.
Nair, however, never received the one-time password required to make online money transfer.
Nair, an HR manager, received the SMS about the transaction at 2am on Tuesday. He filed a complaint with Thrikkakara police and has notified the retailer about the money loss.
