‘Sex worker’ killed for refusing marriage offer

RAJKOT: A 25-year-old woman, alleged to be a sex worker, was stabbed to death by a man on Monday after she refused to marry him.
The deceased was identified as Mohida Khatun who used to operate from the house owned by Sahdev Goswami on Bhavnagar Road in the city. The accused, Jaydeep Setta (25), a native of Jamnagar, used to frequently visit Mohida as a customer.

According to police, on Monday, Setta proposed marriage to Khatun which she refused. Angered by the refusal, Setta allegedly stabbed Khatun with a knife and tried to escape. “But Setta got injured when he broke a glass door in the house to escape. House owner Goswami chased Setta and apprehended him. In the scuffle, Goswami got injured while Setta managed to escape from the area. However, he took an auto rickshaw and got himself admitted into the civil hospital,” said police.

Primary probe suggests that Khatun was killed because she refused to accept Setta’s marriage proposal. “Setta had been visiting Khatun since last one-and-half year and was in in love with her,” said S N Gadu, police inspector at Thorala.
Khatun had been living in the rented house since last four years and was allegedly operating as a sex worker from there.
